Viggen and question on stages

OK, I have an 02 Viggen and I am getting ready to upgrade the ECU - so I have some questions on which stage. Want to make sure I have all the facts before I do this.

On the engine side, I have, or will have, the following installed very shortly:
JR airbox filter
GS V2 downpipe w/cat - connected to the stock exhaust.
ETS IC
CNC diverter valve.

I have an FPR, sitting waiting on the ECU upgrade as well.

So questions:
How much of a negative is the stock Viggen exhaust? I kinda like the sound with the dp. Plus its in good shape, though I have thought about removing the mid muffler.

How much impact will the air box/air filter have? I.e. since its not a "full intake" upgrade.

Can I go stage 4 versus stage 3 - or am I missing something? Downside to stage 4?

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks.

I thought the stock vig exhaust wasn't so bad after you remove the front cats.

The rear part of the DP exit pipe is reduced to fit the stock exhaust. Are people removing the small reducer and custom fab'ing the connection to the upgraded exhausts?

Have to go check your posts about your exhaust.

Thanks again

The sw is going to adjust to the hw to some degree, but I feel getting the best hw possible will allow the sw to run up to its potential and the sw is only as good as the hw. With t7, I would strongly recommend getting the full stg 4 hw before you run the sw, its going to allow for less knock and less back pressure and that will enable the sw to run up to its potential without pulling out as much boost and its just a little safer.

You do not have the "head room" with t7 motors like you do with t5, so I would be on the safe side and have a great ic, dp, free flow cat and also a good cat back system with free flow mufflers and mandral bent tubing.

good luck,

John

If you are going Nordic, Maptun, or any of the other tunes, stick to what the tuners recommend. I went to stage 3+ (stage 3 + IC) and am too chicken to go stage 4 without swapping out pistons. Why mess with it and end up with a huge expense.

Despite my caution, I blew my tranny....it's a Viggen and there will be LOTS of torque.

A lot of folks focus on the exhaust pipe diameter only and neglect the actual muffler. Nick for instance has proven that the 2 3/8" Saab Viggen Sport/Remus exhaust has less back pressure than the JT 3" (remember backpressure is a turbo's worst enemy). Nick even ran this set up on his Viggen up until recently when he fab his own custom cat back exhaust. The bottle neck in the JT is not the 3" mandrel bent piping, rather the muffler. Same can be said for the the stock Bosal vs Saab Viggen Sport/Remus exhaust...its the muffler thats the bottleneck/difference.

I'm not here to bash the JT setup, rather to correct folks that say 2 3/8" piping cannot handle Stage 4. I run Nick's Nordic Stage 4+ w/ the 2 3/8" Saab Viggen/Remus and Nick ran his 450hp+ Viggen with this same exhaust. Remeber the difference between the 2 3/8" and the 2.5" is 1/8".

Ashbypa:
Given that the stock 2 3/8" piping is mandrel bent, you could replace the mid-Bosal muffler with straight 2 3/8" piping and then replace the replace the main Bosal muffler with say a stainless steel Borla muffler and you should be just fine....this would basically be the same as the Saab Sport Exhaust which many folks use.

yeah i was running stg 3 software with a stock exhaust and i called jack stoll about it and he said to me He wouldn't recommend me to drive with stg 3 software with a stock exhaust because the tune and mapping is most def. not compatible and it wont run smooth. and he was right because i had issues. but since i got my saab sport installed my car seem to run MUCH BETTER :)
